Opaque White and Titanium White

Both Akua Intaglio Opaque White and Titanium White can be used for intaglio, relief and monotype.  However they do have different covering properties.

Covering Power & Opacity

The covering power of Opaque White is useful for solid dense layers of ink. It will hide what’s beneath when printed on top of another color.

Titanium White is semi-transparent and has less hiding power. Titanium White is ideal for building up plates gradually with many transparent overprint layers.  With the addition of Transparent Base a wide range of transparent glazes can be achieved.

White Glazing

A glaze is a thin, translucent film of color that’s printed over a print. It is a great way to light up those too dark or over worked prints. How many layers you glaze, depends on the results you’re after.

Glazing is simply building up color by printing thin, transparent layers of ink one of top of another. Each glaze tints the color of the ink beneath it. The translucency of the glaze is determined by how much white you add: more white than glaze results in fewer transparencies; less white than glaze results in more transparencies. It is always best to test your glaze on a scrap print to make sure it’s the right transparency. Apply your glaze just as you would apply ink, with a brush or roller on a plate and then print. With the use of Opaque White, Titanium White and Transparent Base those prints that you were about to throw away may become a stunning success.
