New Akua Wiping Fabric

An Alternative to Tarlatan for wiping intaglio / etched plates

Helps Eliminate Over Wiping Intaglio Plates
Nice for wiping Monotype & Monprint plates

Offers Printmakers Better Quality Prints For:

Akua Wiping Fabric is the perfect material for wiping ink into the grooves and removing excess ink from the surface of all types of intaglio plates, including; photopolymer, etched, drypoint, collagraph and monoprint plates.  Made from sturdy polyester material which is long lasting and lint free. Less absorbent than traditional tarlatan or cheese cloth, reducing the possibility of over wiping the image area on the plate. Yet, it is absorbent enough to wipe the surface area clean.

As a result, prints have  good contrast, fine detail, rich saturated colors and smooth solids without streaking. Akua Wiping Fabric has a “paper like” quality which helps eliminate that extra step of having to do a final paper or hand wipe on the plate.

How to Determine How Much to Buy

Akua Wiping Fabric’s 19” width size makes it easy to store, cut and handle. It will take about 1 yard x 19” of fabric to make a wiping pad for small plates and about 2 yards x 19” of fabric for large plates.

Using Akua Wiping Fabric

After covering the plate with ink, scrape off excess ink with a plastic card so you don’t have to wipe so much. Bunch the Akua Wiping Fabric into a ball shaped pad that fits comfortably in your hand. As you wipe the plate, the top surface of the pad will get inky. Refold the Akua Wiping Fabric periodically, each time selecting a relatively clean spot. As you wipe, gradually use less pressure.
